“Contemporary” praise songs are often criticized, sometimes rightfully, for repeating the same words unendingly, putting participants into a singing coma of sorts. Although Your Name is lyrically somewhat repetitive, it can work. It is a simple song, and the repetition of the phrase “your name” feels a bit like the hook of a pop song. But by paying attention to the repetition and arranging the song carefully (not repeating the chorus too many times back to back), this song can be a good fit for many worship settings. It calls on Jesus for strength, comfort, and unity (and fittingly uses communal language).
