There are plenty of congregational songs to choose from that speak of our (or, more commonly, my) shortcomings and need for mercy, and the grace that God gives us for those areas of life. Such is the message of From the Inside Out. The lyrics are somewhat generic, though it has its moments (“To love you from the inside out,” evoking a sense of movement from an intimate relationship with God to being the hands and feet of Christ). Regardless, this song is not sing-able for the average musician because of its vocal range. The melody at the climax of the song is much higher than the verses, and it unfortunately loses its sense of movement if taken down an octave. Most congregations would be better off choosing one of the many other available songs that speak to the theme of God’s mercy and love.
